Message from Bill Prince ’70

Greetings MacArthur Society Supporters,

Bill Prince here. I am stepping down as president of the MacArthur Society but I would like to take a moment to express to all of you my sincere thanks for your past support for the Society and urge your continued support, especially financial, as the Society continues critically important projects.

And allow me to take a moment to share a few thoughts. We are just slightly over two years old. We started with a few dozen graduates who recognized many serious problems at West Point. Those were very dark days. Given the intense ideological pressure present, any hope of success in returning West Point to foundational principles seemed remote. It certainly appeared that DEI was not about to DIE anytime soon at our alma mater.

But despite the odds against us, we entered the fray. We had very little money; frequently hoping for donations to keep the lights on for another month or two. We recognized as well that we would incur the displeasure, indeed animosity, of old friends, classmates and many in leadership positions at West Point. We did not expect to win any popularity contests and did not expect any positive return on our investment of time and treasure. That wonderful quote from Theodore Roosevelt comes to mind:

“…and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least he fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who knew neither victory nor defeat.”

What a difference two years makes! We have seen literally dozens of reforms, especially since January of this year, which give great cause for optimism. The MacArthur Society Board of Directors and Board of Advisors have both worked and continue to work diligently. And I would be remiss if I did highlight the brilliant work of our webmaster Cindy Kwitchoff. She has been simply indefatigable in her dedication to this fight.

But we must remain vigilant. There is every reason to believe that adherents to a “woke” agenda remain at West Point; less visible now, but not defeated.

The MacArthur Society along with our sister organizations, Stand Together Against Racism and Radicalism in the Services (STARRS) with their special focus on the Air Force Academy and the Calvert Task Group for the Naval Academy have worked hard to promote the need for a Secretary of Defense level investigation of the academies. Titled the Duty Honor Country Commission, this blue-ribbon panel would advise the Secretary of Defense on what needs to be Retained, Restored, Reformed and Improved. The Society will keep supporters informed of progress in this endeavor.

For many months now, I have been praying each morning for the MacArthur Society, as well as for STARRS and the Calvert Task Group; praying specifically for energy and wisdom for all concerned. I will continue in those daily prayers.

And finally a very sincere thank you for the privilege to have been working shoulder to shoulder with so many dedicated patriots. May our Lord bless you and keep you.

I bid you all a sincere farewell,

Bill
