West Point 2050

The MacArthur Society of West Point Graduates concurs with West Point’s Superintendent LTG Gilland and Dean BG Reeves that “the Army and the Academy are at an inflection point.” (1)

We agree that Douglas MacArthur’s reforms at West Point served the Army and the Nation for over 70 years. It’s in our name – MacArthur – for a reason.

Their lengthy homage to MacArthur’s reforms resonates with our proposal for a hard look at West Point and all the Service Academies.

Determine what needs to be retained as is – like great military skills training, removed – like race-based admissions, reformed – like the Honor System, and improved – as in teaching more Military History.

Many of the proposals in their plan for “West Point 2050” are probably outstanding, insightful changes in new buildings and academic administration and programs.

More details and definitions are needed to see what is great and what might be missing.

The MacArthur Society of West Point Graduates purposes itself to support all worthy preparations made at West Point to win future conflicts.
